Situated under Victoria’s highest mountain, Mount Bogong, with a population of approximately 1650 and only 344km north-east of Melbourne, this unique little township is surrounded by picturesque views of snow capped mountains, sparkling rivers and un-touched National Park bush land.
Mount Beauty is located in the Alpine Shire, and is approximately 30km west of Bright. Bright is particularly picturesque during autumn when the colours of its variety of deciduous trees creates a spectacular display, which is celebrated by the Bright Autumn Festival. Travelling the Bright-Tawonga Gap Road, there are 2 lookouts which will allow you to take in more of the scenery on your way into Mount Beauty.
On your way into Mt Beauty you will pass the peaceful communities of Tawonga and Tawonga South, each only a few minutes apart, making up part of the Kiewa Valley and together, with Mount Beauty giving a population of over 3,000.
Mount Beauty is approximately 30km from Falls Creek. The drive out to Falls Creek on the Bogong High Plains Road passes through some interesting attractions such as the Clover power station and arboretum, the bush walk to Fainter Falls, and Bogong Village which has been built into the steep mountainside. The entrance to Falls Creek is located at Howmans Gap and from there the road passes through the Falls Creek Alpine Resort, linking up with the Omeo Highway.
